Android 2.2 ,Froyo (short for frozen yogurt words) finally released. Latest Version of smartphones based on open source platforms are becoming available for developers since Thursday (5/20/2010), so Google announced in the Google I/ O Conference in San Francisco, USA, event the annual meeting of Google application developers.
Froyo is the seventh version of Android that Google has released since it was first introduced in September 2008 this platform. Compared to its predecessor, Android 2.2 offers changes or upgrades are quite large. Xavier Ducrohet, Tech Lead Android SDK, the Android Developers blog states, at least five major changes Froyo offered.
First, increased performance and speed. JIT compiler Dalvik latest available at the Android 2.2 produces between 2-5 times performance improvement compared to Android 2.1.
Second, additional business features. Google has added capabilities such as an Exchange account on auto-discovery and calendar sync. API management policy now also allows developers to create applications that can control the security features, such as remote wipe, password minimum, and lockscreen time out.
Browser faster. In the Android 2.2 has been equipped V8 JavaScript engine that can generate Java Script performance between 2-3 times faster than the Android 2.1.
API packages and new services. New API to allow data back up data from a particular application to be saved and used again if users perform a reinstallation or reset applications. Applications can take advantage of Android Device to Cloud Mesagging to make mobile alerts, send data to a mobile phone, and synchronize the two devise. Developers can now also choose to put the application in the internal memory or SD card.
Supplement to the Android Market. Currently equipped with the Android Market Android Application Error Reports to collect reports from users if there is an application that does not work or performing.
In addition to these five improvement, Froyo also supports new features, for example, supports full-Flash in the browser and can make the smartphone as a WiFi router. These features make the Android-based smartphone will be more interactive and fully functional
